Enemy of the King is an amazing and vibrant look into the American Revolutionary War and tells the story through the eyes of a remarkable woman. While Jeremiah Jordan himself is a strong soldier and heroic patriot, it is Meriwether Steele who makes such a great impression in this epic novel. Her dedication to the man she loves, the lengths she must go to defend herself and others, and the unstoppable force that she is makes Meriwether one heck of a heroine. Ms. Trissel brings the countryside and its people alive with her fascinating and at times gory details. This sexy historical book is a must read!Danielle

For lovers of the American Revolutionary War like me this story was a delight. It is well researched and true to the time period. Jeremiah is a charming southern gentleman and a fearless colonial patriot. His farm at Pleasant Grove is wild with billowing moss, live oaks and flower scented air. And his ward Meriwether has a tendency to walk in her night shift when there are secrets abroad.
But there is a lot about Jeremiah Jordan that Meriwether doesn’t know when she plans to rescue him from the hands of British soldiers. Her rash, for a lady, actions set them running for their lives into the Carolina backwoods. It is an adventure for Meriwether where her love blossoms along with her respect for Jeremiah’s leadership and bravery. For romance readers, and patriots everywhere, don’t miss this story.
I like this author. Just did not care for this story. Was very easy to set down.
I love the way Beth has woven history, action, adventure and romance together in this edge of your seat novel. You can easily identify with her characters. It was hard to stop reading this book until it was finished. I've read it several times already.
Who can stand more yearning intense feelings held back? It is exhausting trying to get thru it. I gave up when he took her to the garden and told her of his love.... J.D. Robb save me!!!!
ENEMY OF THE KING is an excellent and intriguing read. All of the characters are depicted as multi-dimensional and complex, with a mix of positive and negative traits. I don't want to give away the plot, but will just say there are surprising twists, and the author deftly combines both joy and tragedy in this romance novel about the American Revolution. I appreciate that members of each side of the war (both Loyalists and Patriots) are shown in a range from "good" to "evil," unlike many romances in which characters or groups of characters are depicted as only "black or white".
Great work, Ms. Trissel!
Being born in SC I really enjoyed this book about the revolutionary war. It was a well written book that deals with a patriot that was caught by the British and how he escapes, with his ward, and continues the fight.
I live in Western North Carolina and I enjoyed reading about the history of the Cherokee tribe, Mountain Men, and the Carolinas. This book was also a wonderful read.....and after I finished reading the book I did more reading up on the American Revolution. This coming fourth of July will be much different for me now)
