Three Act Tragedy Hercule Poirot Agatha Christie 9780425205976 Books

I love Agatha Christie. I have read and re-read all of her novels many times since I discovered her when I was 13 years old (a LONG time ago). I purchased the Kindle edition of every novel of hers that was available, and it has been a delight. This one, however, stumps me terribly. The Kindle edition CHANGES THE STORY from the original book. I don't understand it. Why? Who did this? The motive for the murder is completely different. Large sections of the story are changed or deleted. The titles of a number of Agatha Christie's books and short stories were changed once or more between the British and American versions. This book has had at least two different titles: "Three Act Tragedy" and "Murder in Three Acts". Short story anthologies varied depending on when and where they were published. But I have seen no record of the entire plot of one of her novels being rewritten between versions. It is very disconcerting! And it ruins the book. In its book form, this is a good, solid Agatha Christie with a lot of originality (especially regarding motive). The new motive is much weaker than the original, and a lot of significant text is either removed or no longer makes sense. Perhaps this is a relatively unknown or early version of the book...but I don't think so. Was this change a decision by Kindle editors? If so, why? And why was the reader not warned that this is not an original Christie? If anyone knows the answer, I would love to find out!

Three Act Tragedy Hercule Poirot Agatha Christie 9780425205976 Books Reviews

It was fun to watch Poirot teach the wannabes how to be detectives, especially with one of them the murderer. Another fun mystery.
I loved the twist at the end when Hercule points out the details that all the other 'detectives' overlooked. Unfortunately, we don't get to find out how he discovered all the links in the days before googling someone became possible.
A superlative showing by Hercule Poirot. The reader's thoughts will be tossed this way and that, trying to determine the identity of the perpetrator. A most satisfying read.
Cindy Kirby. I liked the story and semi-surprise ending. I didn't like the person Mrs. Christie chose to be the murderer.
I have read almost every one of her books. I believe that I have read all of the Hercule Poirot and Jane Marple books. They are my favorite detectives.
There are a few characters in her other stories that I like very much.
Keeps you guessing till the last page... Christie is always a great escape from TV reruns or banal new programs ... And with a you don't even need the lights on
I consider my self an expert on Agatha Christie, as I have been reading and rereading her books for over 40 years and let me tell you, they changed the ending of this story completely!! Also, they omitted a lot of the original story to make the new ending fit!! Who ever is doing this to her stories should be shot!! Agatha Christie was a brilliant writer and changing her original stories is blasphemy!!
Good Poirot book overall, though not the best. Notes for the "connaisseurs" of Poirots Hasting is not in this book, and this is one of these investigations where Poirot is taking a step back to let other characters taking the lead of the investigation (or so it seems, as eventually Poirot is the only one who will figure out everything at the end... as usual). My main criticism is this it is a rare occurence in Christie's book, but I got a "hunch" throughout the book as to who was the murderer (and if I could guess, then the average reader will be able to as well), though I didn't figure out at all the details, motives and all. I also get the feeling that this one was not one of the most demanding case for Poirot to solve, though you'll learn at the end that it could actually have ended up pretty badly for him (I will say no more). On the positive it is well paced with some interesting and colourful characters.
