Great book!!! Good story and very gripping book!
This book is about this girl called Laura who wins a Free holiday to an Island. By mistake her best friend, Tariq, and her siberian huski,Skye, find themselves on board th ship going to the island. Strange things happen on the boat and Laura doesn't even know what's ahead of her! The first day on board the ship, Laura finds her uncle has sprained both his ankles. Then everything hapens to fast for her to realise what's happening.
After all the excitement of her adventures during Dead Man's Cove, Laura Marlin is anxious to get away for a relaxing break. It seems that she might be in with a chance when the Fantasy Travel Company arrives in town in order to publicise a lucky draw to win a luxury cruise and a week's stay in Antigua. Laura buys a ticket for the draw and is delighted when, several days later, a limo pulls up to her door and she is informed that she is the lucky winner. Her uncle, Calvin Redfern, is less delighted at the prospect of having to drop everything and depart for the Caribbean at such short notice but, after a covert nocturnal meeting with a mysterious stranger in the local graveyard, he changes his mind and the two of them prepare to enjoy their luxury break.

Unfortunately, things turn out to be far less relaxing than they had hoped. Laura's best friend Tariq and her beloved husky Skye inadvertently end up stowing away on the cruise ship, while her Uncle Calvin suffers a fall that leaves him confined to her cabin for the duration of the voyage. When Uncle Calvin disappears and the sinister events onboard ship start to spiral out of control, Laura and Tariq must play a deadly game with their enemies. Thousands of miles from home, they must face pirates, a volcano and hungry sharks if they are to recover Uncle Calvin and find out just who is desperate to spoil Laura's dream vacation.

Kidnap in the Caribbean is Lauren St John's second Laura Marlin mystery and is an excellent follow-up to Dead Man's Cove. Laura and Tariq must once again face deadly danger armed with only the instructions of their favourite fictional detective and assisted by good-intentioned if rather accident-prone new friend Jimmy Gannet. When Mrs Crabtree warned Laura to stay away from raffles and lotteries, Laura didn't realise how wise her neighbour was. The offer of a free luxury holiday really was too good to be true and it soon becomes clear that some very dangerous people had set Laura up from the very beginning.

Although the mystery in Kidnap in the Caribbean is more `why' and `how' than `who', it's still a very exciting story with lots of action and intrigue. Laura and Tariq are both great heroes, they've clever and brave and always do the right thing without seeking praise for their actions. This time round they have to outsmart gangsters and kidnappers and navigate their way around the Caribbean in order to save Uncle Calvin. The mystery is complex enough to keep readers guessing as to the purpose behind it and there's plenty of danger and excitement that helps the story to speed along. There's also an important [and non-preachy] message about the need to conserve endangered wildlife.
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book together and can't wait for the next one. Perfect for her age of 9-10 years.
